This character’s favorite animals are his beloved hamsters, whom he calls the “Four Dark Devas of Destruction.” He always has his “cursed arm” with bandages to avoid being bitten by his pets, which he has well trained. Gundham Tanaka says that he can talk to animals once he has tamed them. He begins by speaking in a low and gentle voice to gain the animal’s trust, approaching slowly.

However, despite being antisocial, he possesses a genuine and deep love for animals. He, along with his class mates from class 77-B, were brainwashed to join a terrorist organization called The Ultimate Despair, lead by Junko Enoshima. This is the highest merit awarded to students who have specialized in a specific subject at Hope’s Peak Academy. He plays an important role in the game, as he possesses the title of “the Ultimate Breeder” in the Animal Breeding Committee. Gundham Tanaka is a character featured in Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, with appearances in Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope’s Peak High School as well.
